Help Poor Women and Child Organization of Pakistan President Ramzan Mayo led a demonstration against the imposition of lockdown on Ferozepur Road here on Saturday.
According to protesters, lockdown is not a permanent solution to avoid the coronavirus, and that it will instead increase unemployment in the country. He said that the spread of the disease due to recent lockdown is an ‘artificial prevention’. According to him, the country is already in the grip of extreme poverty. “If more lockdowns are imposed, millions of people will starve to death, as the coronavirus threatens to kill about 2 to 3 percent of the population, but 50 percent of the people may lose their lives due to hunger,” they maintained.
Mayo said lockdown should not be imposed in the country and instead people should be made to follow SOPs so that they can stay safe from the disease.
