Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Monday said any alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was not possible before the upcoming general elections.
Talking to media during his visit to the city, the PPP leader said violence should not result in delay in the upcoming general elections. “We want security for everyone during elections. Even if there is violence, it doesn’t mean we postpone elections,” he said. “Even Afghanistan and Iran conduct elections,” he added.
“I think Imran Khan has expressed his wish but there is no constitutional way of delaying the elections,” the PPP leader said, while commenting on PTI chief’s reported statement on the possibility of elections being delayed for around a month.
Bilawal condemned attack on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and demanded foolproof security for all the candidates during the elections.
Talking about former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal said he is making strange statements these days. “I think the stance of confrontation taken up by Nawaz to hide the Panama scandal is against the interests of the country and democracy,” he asserted.
“Those spreading the politics of hate, especially in Punjab, will have an adverse impact on the youth,” he said, appealing to the politicians to positively engage the youth. “We have to spread tolerance in the country and only PPP has concentrated on this,” he added.
“PPP members are in jail but no member of the PML-N is in jail. Their propaganda will not be successful,” Bilawal said. “This region doesn’t belong to a single man. Mandi Bahauddin is the main constituency of the PPP.”
