KARACHI: Interpol section of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sought personal details of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London leader Nadeem Nusrat from Sindh Police for issuance of red-warrants for his arrest through Interpol.
In a letter, sent by Yaseen Farooq, the Interpol section director, FIA has sought the date of birth and documents relating to the identity of Nadeem Nusrat from Inspector Sindh IGP Office.
On April 3, an anti-terrorism court had issued warrants for Nadeem Nusrat, Sohail Zaidi and other leaders in the Shahid Hamid murder case.
The letter was written on July 3 with the subject: ‘Request for issuance of Red-Warrant through Interpol of absconder accused Nadeem Nusrat’. “Kindly refer to your office letter and telephonic conversation with NCB director on the subject cited above.
Kindly provide the date of birth and details of identity documents in order to proceed further into the matter,” the letter states.
The proceedings were initiated when the Sindh Police sent a letter to the FIA in compliance with orders of the ATC. According to sources, Nadeem Nusrat is active in the United States these days on the directives of his leader. The investigation officer of the case had requested for the red-warrants of accused and the court had accepted his plea.
At that time, the court had ordered the investigation officer to approach the Interior Ministry to start the proceedings.
According to police record, Hamid was killed in 1997 by Minhaj Qazi, Saulat Mirza and other accomplices in Gizri. Saulat Mirza has already been executed. Earlier, MQM Pakistan leaders had criticised Nadeem Nusrat, terming his activities in US as anti-Pakistan.
