UMERKOT: Students of Government Higher Secondary Schools of Umerkot district showcased their models at a 2-day event of Science, Arts and Technology held at Government Higher Secondary School No.1 Umerkot in connection with World Space Week 2017.
Around 22 schools of boys and 16 girls participated in the event during allocated separate days for them. Officials of education department, students, teachers, civil society activists and parents visited the exhibition.
District Education Officer Umerkot, Durako Mal said that exposure of students from public schools remained constructive in terms of learning and exploring their cognitive skills.
Teaching instructional methods and experiential learning is often missing due to which school children rarely get chance to execute their innovations, ideas and creativities.
The models showcased in exhibition were made with low and no cost material that need to be encouraged in education system and will strengthen grounds of learning.
Luqman Nohri, district coordinator Reform Support Unit said that event was successful in gearing up enthusiasm among students of district Umerkot. Models of science, art and culture displayed in the event reflected competency, ability and potential of students and teachers.
He emphasised teachers to transform their teaching methodologies in classrooms keeping in view learning by doing theory of John Devy.
Teachers should encourage their students to explore their content and practical knowledge which would further trigger their classroom level engagement and academic performance.
Muhammad Jamil coordinator of SUPARCO said that being only space agency in country that celebrates world space week each year with aim to promote space science awareness and its benefit for human being and as well as for socio economic development of Pakistan.
Umerkot district has been one of the underserved areas so exploring talents will add value in students’ professional career to innovate and inspire world.
Mohamamd Bux Kumbhar, Shahnawaz Khoso and others also highlighted importance and contribution of exhibition.
Exhibition tableaus and theatre were also performed by multiple schools.
