LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Farhatullah Babar resigned from the Senate’s Defence Committee on Friday.
He did not reveal the reasons behind his resignation but showed reservations on the visit of parliamentarians to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
Addressing the media, he said, “When the GHQ was asked to present documents before the parliament, they refused to do so by saying that the sensitive documents cannot be brought out of the GHQ”.
“Is GHQ unable to ensure the security of sensitive documents for even 15 kilometers?” Babar asked.
“GHQ should come to the parliament instead the parliamentarians go to the GHQ,” he added.
He was referring to a visit of the members of the Defence Committee to the GHQ last month where they met with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
PPP’s Farooq H. Naek will replace Babar in the committee.
