National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Javed Iqbal Thursday ordered the NAB Lahore director general to conduct an inquiry into an illegal award of mining lease worth $4 billion dollars for extracting precious minerals in Chiniot, Punjab.
The NAB chief also ordered an inquiry into the alleged corruption in the award of an agreement to an alleged fake company, Earth Resource Private Limited (ERPL), by the Punjab government in 2007.
Subsequently, the NAB Lahore director general had started inquiry after constituting a combined investigation team (CIT).
The CIT would inquire that why the NAB had closed the inquiry in the past and would also ascertain the responsible of closure of the inquiry.
The chairman has also directed to get guidance from the decisions of high court and Supreme Court in the instant case. The chairman ordered CIT to complete the inquiry within the prescribed period of time keeping in view solid evidence and legal aspects. “No laxity would be tolerated in this regard,” he cautioned.
