LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq has expressed deep concern over the reports of secret meetings on Kashmir but has warned that the nation would not accept backdoor diplomacy or secret talks on this vital national issue.
Talking to different delegations in Islamabad on Thursday he said that talks with India on Kashmir should be held in broad daylight and the Kashmiri leadership must also be invited as a necessary party. He further said that relations with India could not be normalised unless the Kashmir issue was resolved.
He condemned the fresh loans of two hundred billion dollars from foreign banks on heavy interest rate. He said that the rulers had already mortgaged the future of the country and the nation. He said that it was due to the corruption, luxurious living and plunder of the rulers that the country was burdened under heavy loans.
He said that at present almost 60 percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) was going to the payment of interest of International Monetary Fund and World Bank loans due to which the national economy was on the verge of collapse. He said that if the rulers went on securing more loans the entire GNP would be spent only to clear the interest on loans and nothing would be available for national defense and other vital needs.
He reiterated that if the prime minister did not vacate his office, the joint investigation team (JIT) investigations would be marred by doubts. Therefore, he said that the prime minister should resign and appear before the JIT as a common accused.
