ISLAMABAD: French Customs officials have detained a flight attendant of Pakistan International Airline in Paris, after seizing contraband from his luggage on Saturday.
Upon suspicion, French authorities initiated a search of the PIA flight PK-749 upon its arrival. Flight attendant Tanveer Gulzar was detained by the authorities after allegedly recovering drugs under his possession.
A PIA spokesperson stated that he was astonished on how the steward surpassed the security checks, adding that the steward has been suspended from duty effective immediately and would be fired if proven guilty of smuggling the contraband by the court. He added that he is still uncertain if the French authorities would penalise the flight attendant in Paris or deport him.
The spokesperson upon being questioned stated that the security check was not the airline’s responsibility.
