Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood Friday said all measures would be employed to remove hurdles in the way of merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
In a meeting with a delegation of tribal youth jirga which called on him at the Bala Hisar Fort, the corps commander said the merger process will be expedited. The newly merged areas would get their due share in the NFC award, including share in seats in the provincial assembly, he said.
The army general informed the delegation that a complaint cell would be set up to resolve issues of the tribal areas at the earliest. He said progress would be made on the issue of missing persons. He went on to say that complaints of the people regarding visa conditions at the Torkham border would be considered. The Dara Adamkhel arms industry would be regularized after establishment of the industrial zone, he added.
Referring to health and education sectors in tribal areas, he said that projects in these sectors would be completed on priority basis. Army personnel from security check posts in tribal districts would be replaced by personnel of the Frontier Corps and the Levies forces.
