The Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Kashmir Justice Rtd, Abdul Rashid Sulharia called on AJK President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chuadhry at President House, here, on Wednesday and held detailed discussion regarding Local Body elections, which are to be held on Nov, 27, 2022.
The AJK CEC on the occasion gave a detailed briefing regarding the administrative measures that were taken by the election commission to conduct local body elections.
The Chief EC told the commission has completed all the administrative measures, whereas, the printing of ballot papers has also been completed, besides, the letter has been written to the federal government and its concerned authorities for the provision of security personals to hold LB elections in a peaceful manner in AJK.
The President of AJK Barrister Sultan on this occasion expressed his satisfaction over the administrative measures for conducting elections taken by the Election Commission and ensured the CEC that he himself will hold talks with concerned authorities for the provision of Security forces.
AJK President describes US visit fruitful: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry while terming his recent visit to the USA as highly productive has said that it was a significant tour that would certainly have a far-reaching impact on Kashmir’s freedom movement.
Talking to media in the State metropolis on Wednesday, the AJK president while citing his series of important meetings with world leaders and top officials of the UN, OIC and the US state department said that during these high-profile meetings he had been able to present Kashmiris’ point of view before the world effectively.
He said that the world was gradually realizing the importance of the resolution of Kashmir issue.Recalling his meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of State Elizabeth Horst and other top US officials at the State Department, Barrister Chaudhary said that he gave them a detailed briefing on the Kashmir issue and the fast deteriorating political and human rights situation in the Indian Occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“I also presented the Kashmiris’ case at the OIC Contact Group meeting, OIC Foreign Ministers’ Conference and other forums and stressed the need for early solution of the Kashmir issue and bringing an immediate end to the ongoing violation of human rights in Occupied Kashmir.
“The international community needs to understand the fact that the unresolved dispute Kashmir issue is a major source of tension between India and Pakistan”, he said. “The world must not leave them (India and Pakistan on their own since both the countries are nuclear powers”, Barrister said adding that any misunderstanding or miscalculation between the two nuclear neighbors can ignite a war that has the potential to jeopardize peace and security not only in South Asia but the whole world.
“It is therefore imperative that the world community in particular the US should play its role to settle the Kashmir dispute peacefully in accordance with the UNSC resolutions”, he said.
Referring to his meetings with the members of Pakistani and Kashmiri community settled in different parts of the US the president said, “I urged the immigrants living in the United States to take part in the politics of the United States and participate in political and social activities here, especially in the gubernatorial and mayoral elections to be held on November 9 and vote candidates who support Kashmir cause”.
He said that the Kashmiri and Pakistani Americans can also play a vital role by getting involved in mainstream politics in the USA the way Kashmiri community had created its own constituency in the UK.
On local bodies elections being held in last week of this month the AJK president said, “the local bodies elections in Azad Jammu Kashmir are being held on November 27 and the preparations in this regard have been completed”.
Several AJK cabinet ministers including senior Minister Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, and others were also present on this occasion.
